Periodontal Disease

Periodontal Disease

Gum disease results when plaque bacteria accumulates below your gum line, causing irritation and pockets of infection. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to gum recession, tooth loss, and jaw bone deterioration. In addition to being detrimental to your oral health, gum disease has been linked to a number of other conditions such as Alzheimer’s, heart disease, respiratory disease, and cancer. Dr. Joe Jeppson and his team are dedicated to protecting your total oral and systemic health. We provide the most cost-effective and conservative treatments, as well as thorough patient education.

Exams and Cleanings

Routine preventive care is an essential part of overall dental healthcare. We provide routine cleanings and checkups using advanced technology such as intraoral cameras, which give both you and Dr. Jeppson a detailed view of your teeth and soft tissues. We use sophisticated instruments to detect potential oral health issues in their earliest stages, and teach patients techniques to help prevent problems from developing. Our DIAGNOdent™ cavity detection system uses laser technology to detect tooth decay that may not be visible to the naked eye.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays make dental care safer and more precise. They provide sharper, more accurate images than traditional film X-rays. Additionally, digital imaging involves lower levels of radiation, so this technology is safer for our patients than traditional X-rays. Digital images can be magnified many times, allowing Dr. Jeppson to make more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans. Because they are stored digitally, your X-rays can be referenced or sent to specialists instantly. Meanwhile, because they require no film or ink, they produce virtually none of the waste involved with traditional X-rays.

Fluoride Treatments

We usually provide fluoride treatments for our pediatric patients, but many adults can benefit from them as well. Fluoride helps to strengthen dental enamel and prevent decay. Although it is found in many foods and most city water supplies, many patients do not receive a sufficient amount. We can apply fluoride foam or varnish to your teeth during your regular appointment. Our fluoride supplements come in a wide variety of flavors for your enjoyment.

Sealants

Sealants are applied to the top of posterior teeth that have deep grooves and cusps. They help to reduce or eliminate the risk of bacteria buildup. Because these surfaces are used to chew, they are highly susceptible to a buildup of food particles, which can lead to cavities. Sealants can be applied quickly as a long-lasting preventive measure against decay.

At-home Dental Care

While in-office exams and cleanings are very important, your day-to-day dental care keeps your smile healthy between visits. Dr. Jeppson and our team can help you learn the most effective hygienic techniques to use at home. We often focus on flossing, which many patients tend to overlook or perform improperly. Flossing is an easy way to avoid gum disease. We also provide take-home fluoride treatments if you have an active decay rate.

Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Jeppson is dedicated to providing friendly care for the entire family. He starts with preventative care for toddlers, monitoring their dental development and looking for any signs of decay. We recommend that patients come in for their first visit around age 2, and begin having routine dental visits at age 4. At this time, Dr. Jeppson begins gentle routine cleanings and helps children feel comfortable in the office. Dr. Jeppson and his entire staff are committed to maintaining a positive, upbeat atmosphere to help your child adopt healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Laser Dentistry

Laser Dentistry

We use laser instruments during many of our soft-tissue surgeries, such as gum contouring, gingivectomy, frenectomy, biopsy, and cold sore treatment. Lasers actually seal blood vessels as they remove tissue, minimizing our patients' discomfort and recovery time. Lasers also kill bacteria and sterilize tissue, helping you start a new chapter of good oral health in your life.
