Gum contouring is also sometimes called cosmetic gum shaping or crown lengthening. You may also hear it referred to as a gingivectomy.

You may have an overabundance of gum tissue. This can have a negative effect on the appearance of your smile by making your teeth appear short. It can also make it difficult for you to brush and floss your teeth effectively. Our dentist can use gum contouring to gently remove excess gum tissue to reveal more of the crown, restoring your appearance and making it easier for you to clean your smile. If your teeth are shorter than they should be from bruxism or trauma, Dr. Jeppson may suggest this treatment. And while gum contouring can be used to reduce gum tissue, it may also be utilized to address an uneven gum line, which can be the result of gum disease.
