There are many factors that can trigger sensitive teeth and cause you pain. Are you aware of the dangers of sensitive teeth? If not, you have come to the right place! Sensitive teeth are a condition that should be treated as soon as possible.

Sensitive teeth strike when your tooth enamel has become too thin or compromised from gum disease or cavities. Usually, sensitive teeth are a warning sign to seek professional treatment right away. There are many possible causes of sensitive teeth which include worn down tooth enamel, cavities, worn out fillings, an exposed root of a tooth, or a cracked or fractured tooth. Many of these situations can be treated by visiting your dentist.

Sensitive teeth can also begin from too much exposure to over-the-counter teeth-whitening products. In fact, overexposure to the over-the-counter product could result in damaging the enamel on your teeth, which can also cause pain from some of your favorite snacks and drinks. That is why having a professional whiten your teeth is always the safest option.

If you are looking for extra protection from cavities for your teeth or your child’s teeth, ask our dentist about dental sealants in Provo, Utah.

What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a thin, plastic coating that is painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to help prevent tooth decay.

Why are dental sealants used?
The molars and premolars have grooves or crevices that can be very difficult to clean, even with proper brushing. Plaque and food particles can become lodged in these grooves, which can cause decay. Dental sealants are placed to block plaque and food particles out of the crevices of the molars and premolars. This helps prevent tooth decay.

Who is a candidate for dental sealants?
Children usually have dental sealants placed as their molars and premolars grow in. This usually occurs when a child is 11 to 13 years old. However, adults can have dental sealants placed on the chewing surfaces of back teeth that do not have dental fillings or tooth decay.

How are sealants placed?
Before placing dental sealants, Dr. Joe Jeppson will thoroughly clean the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Then the teeth are etched to allow for the sealant to successfully attach to the teeth. The sealant is painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and allowed to harden.

We invite you to contact Jeppson Dental at 801-356-7701 today to learn more about sealants and to schedule an appointment.
